From Rhetoric to Reality: Creating a Culture of Success in Secondary Schools


This speech was given by invitation to principal Christine Cawsey at the University of Tasmania for the Centre for Educational Attainment on July 16 2015 in recognition of the outstanding work being done at Rooty Hill HS.

Why Rooty Hill HS needs "needs based funding"....

As I work across the state and around the country with educators and in my roles on the board of the GWSGiants, The Smith Family and the Australian Council of Educational Leaders I am frequently challenged by the lack of understanding of why the work of David Gonski(and his panel) to secure needs based funding for all schools matters so much to schools like Rooty Hill HSwhere I am principal. I have taken to carrying pamphlets to explain needs based funding to people who ask me about it. I also talk about Rooty Hill HS and schools like it.

Future Funding for our School

Last Monday (26 May 2014) we launched the Social Ventures Australia (SVA) partnership at the school. As one of three NSW government schools chosen as a Powerhouse School in the SVA Bright Spots Schools Connection, our work as a leading secondary school in western Sydney was recognised.
